Saturday Dinners FAQ's

FAQ's

What's the Saturday Night Dinners crowd like? Are the dinners rowdy? Low-key?
We are a diverse group of people that is always changing and evolving. But generally, we're a friendly, positive, healthy & happy group of people. Each dinner consists of probably 1/2 regular attendees and 1/2 new members, so we're never clickish and whether you're brand new to the group or a veteran member, there's always new faces to meet. The dinners tend to be more casual, low-key events.

What type of food should I bring to a dinner?
We ask that most of the time you bring a dinner food item (like as in a potluck or dinner party), as opposed to an appetizer, beverage, or dessert, though those things are fine once and a while. Our goal is to fill bellies, people! Dinner events usually have a food theme, like Mexican or Italian, but if you don't want to bring that type of food, just bring whatever you like. If you'd like more information, go to our food ideas page.

What's policy on alcohol?
It's BYOB, unless noted otherwise.

Is this group for singles, couples, or a mix?
We welcome both singles and couples!

Do I have to host a dinner to participate?
Nope! You can just come and enjoy. But having hosts is what makes these dinners possible, so we do encourage it! Plus it's fun!

I'd like to host a Saturday Night Dinner. What do I need to do?
If you have attended at least 1 dinner, you can host. Additionally, there are three requirements to hosting a dinner:
1. Your home/apartment can accommodate at least 25 people
2. You live within 30 minute drive of either Minneapolis or St. Paul
3. You provide paper plates, napkins, etc. and a dish to pass
If you meet these requirements, we'll pick a date for your dinner (usually at least 2 months in advance) and the organizers will assist you in planning your unique Saturday Dinner event!

My home isn't big enough to host a dinner. Can I host at a restaurant or create an outside activity for the group?
Yes, you can! Restaurant hosting is a great alternative to home-based hosting if you live in a small apartment. You may also organize another type of activity. Please contact an Organizer for details.

Do I have to provide all the food for people?
Not at all. You pick a food theme, and make one main dish along that theme. But don't worry, you won't have to cook for 30 people! Everyone brings a dish or beverage to contribute.
