The Crystal City BID (Business Improvement District) is holding a FREE James Bond film festival every Monday night, where they show a different picture every week. They're going chronologically, starting with Dr. No on May 5 and ending with Casino Royale on September 22. This week's film is the 1977 classic The Spy Who Loved Me, later to be spoofed by Mike Myers as Austin Powers in The Spy Who... well, you know what he did.

You can find out more information about the festival at:
http://www.crystalcit...

The film will be shown in the courtyard of an office complex at 1850 S. Bell Street in Crystal City. It is directly across the street from the Crystal City Metro stop, and I strongly recommend taking Metro to this because there isn't much street parking in Crystal City. Besides, it's just a lot easier.

The film officially starts at "sundown", which can be anywhere from 8:00 to 9:00 PM, depending on the day. Just as a guideline, Live and Let Die on June 23 started at 9:00, but now that we're past the summer solstice, the start times will start working back to earlier. The films run rain or shine, and the BID folks encourage everyone to bring a picnic and a blanket. And lots of people do. For folks coming from work, that may be a bit unwieldy, but there are lots of restaurants around the area where you can grab food before coming to the film. There are also some benches and tables to sit at there, but those do fill up fast, these have been well attended thus far so get there early if that's where you want to sit.

Come on out and enjoy some action and adventure under the stars!

Who attended?

    •  Overall, an easygoing night out. True, in terms of plot and storyline, if you've seen one Bond film, you've seen them all. But it is neat to see what new gadgets and villains they come up with each time around (a Lotus Esprit 2-seater that turns into a submarine?). The people running the sound system this time weren't always on top of things and we had to ask repeatedly for the sound to be turned up, but towards the last 45 minutes of the film they got it right.
    •  The conversation before the movie was lively and interesting.
